Wildflower Season

The best time to visit Western Australia is undoubtedly during wildflower season, where the landscape erupts into magnificent colour.

This dedicated and immersive wildflower tour will take you deep into the the very best areas in South Western Australia to experience the remarkable wildflower phenomenon and the see the breathtaking scenery along the way. There are more than 15,000 species of wildflowers throughout WA - many only found here - such as clusters of splendid rare orchids, prolific inland carpets of everlastings as far as the eye can see to colourful roadside kangaroo paws.

With a maximum of 6 people, this is a truly personalised overnight touring experience on our small luxury 4WD vehicle.

Day 1 Fly to Perth

Feel the great expansive openness of the West Coast with its big blue skies and its ever developing but still youthful capital city of Perth. You will be personally met at the airport by a DISCOVER AUSTRALIA representative and transferred from the airport to your hotel. You can relax and use the rest of the day to explore your hotel and its facilities, perhaps take a stroll around the neighbourhood and central Perth.

DAY 2 Perth & Fremantle Luxury Coach Tour

The beautiful city of Perth is fringed by the Indian Ocean and the Swan River. It has spectacular beaches, a friendly welcoming ambience and a laid back lifestyle dominated by its seemingly perpetual sunny climes. Chic and stylish, Perth effortlessly combines this beach-outdoor lifestyle with its modern, urban big-city feel. You'll marvel at the spectacular cityscapes from beautiful Kings Park, and enjoy the balmy waters of the Indian Ocean at the world-famous Cottesloe beach. Fremantle's historic colonial streets pulsate with the energy of street-performers and buskers, couples walk hand-in-hand through its colourful and lively markets. The lively street cafes and restaurants along its famous 'cappuccino strip' are perfect resting places to indulge in a spot of people watching.

Your friendly driver will pick you up in the comfortable air-conditioned luxury coach before sharing experiences, fascinating facts and enchanting stories in the on-board full commentary throughout the morning. This comprehensive tour includes Perth City, Fremantle, Kings Park Botanical Gardens, Indian Ocean beaches, swanky suburbs and the Swan River.

Today you will see Perth City, the famous WACA (Western Australia cricket ground), impressive Swan Bell Tower, Perth Town Hall, St Georges Terrace (hub of Australia's minerals and energy industries), Barrack Street Jetty, Perth Mint (working gold mint, stunning sandstone colonial architecture), Old Swan Brewery and Royal Perth Yacht Club (once home to the America's Cup). Stop at magnificent Kings Park for spectacular views over Perth skyline, Swan River and Melville Water. Walk through the tree canopies on the Tree Top Walk see the 750-year-old boab tree. See famous Cottesloe Beach and the Indian Ocean sunset coastline. Tour Fremantle (historic large working port docks, rich convict history, glorious alfresco outdoor dining, marinas, charming heritage sandstone buildings, modern ocean racing yachts, colonial terraced houses, museums and galleries). Enjoy some free time in Fremantle to explore the colourful streets for yourself, perhaps enjoy a coffee on South Terrace's Cappucino Strip or indulge in some shopping in the many unique shops or find a bargain at the weekend markets. On our way back to Perth City we see some of Australia's most expensive real-estate at the upmarket Swan River suburbs of Peppermint Grove and Dalkeith. Time this afternoon to explore more of Perth on your own.

Day 3 Explore Perth

Perth is Australia's friendly city, blessed with abundant sunshine and beautiful surrounds, it blends vibrant urban chic with a laid-back outdoor lifestyle, Perths modern skyline is best viewed from stunning Kings Park which offers great views of the city and the meandering Swan River, nearby attractions include the Swan Valley wineries and historic Fremantle.

Today explore Perth at your own pace. Take a stroll around the city or maybe visit Fremantle. The choice is yours.

Day 4 Tour to Wave Rock

On this Seven Day Wildflower Tour taking in isolated roads, spectacular southern coastal wilderness in the national parks you will see the flowers that many people dream. You will see Western Australia Wildflowers in masses of biodiversity of species, lots of mixed colour and varying sizes.

Depart Perth and start your unique Western Australia Wildflower tour in the Narrogin area, looking at regional flora in reserves nearby. At Harrismith the wildflowers of this sand plain area are the most spectacular to be found in this region.

Mallee Heath found here is dominated by the three largest botanical families in Australia; (Epacridaceae), the Bearded Heath, (Myrtaceae), the Verticordias, Eucalyptus and Calothamnus and (Proteaceae) the Banksias, Dryandras.

After lunch at the Kulin Community Resource Centre, see The Kulin Vase which was designed by Philip Gibson. The Vase design is based on the Eucalyptus macrocarpa which is native to Western Australia and is plentiful in the Kulin region.

Tour the Tin Horse Highway. The dusty paddocks surrounding Kulin have become a gallery of bright, quirky, community creations. What started as an authentic community marketing campaign to promote the annual Kulin Bush Races has become one of Western Australia’s most popular drives.

Travel on picturesque Buckley’s Breakaway where the gully is dominated by Cypress Pine, Blue Mallet, and Box Poison, at the top of the ‘breakaway ‘carries the most interesting plants.

This late afternoon visit Wave Rock, when the late sun highlights its shape and colours.

Day 5 Tour to Esperance

Lake King is a stopping place for visitors travelling across the arid country around Frank Hahn National Park to Norseman. Outstanding wildflowers in late spring include rare and endangered species. East of Lake King is the Rabbit Proof Fence boasting magnificent displays of wildflowers in season.

We take an outback road to Esperance via Cascades going through Frank Hahn National Park.

Frank Hahn National Park has been declared to protect sand plain habitat and heath flora Mallee and wattles, melaleucas. Traveling on through characteristic Mallee-heathland wilderness. Cascades Mallee - Heathland offer areas of masses of flowers and then into the Cascades – Esperance farming region.

Both the National Park and Mallee-heathland have a spectacular range of wildflowers afforded by its isolation.

Esperance is Australia's best-kept secret. The Esperance region is distinguished by spectacular coastal scenery and a diversity of wildlife including seals, dolphins, whales, emus and sea eagles plus pristine beaches and 110 islands that make up the Recherche Archipelago. With stunning national parks, this is one of a few places in Western Australia where you may see kangaroos sunbathing on the beach.

Day 6 Explore Esperance & Surrounds

This morning we drive east of Esperance to spend to day exploring Duke of Orleans Bay and Wharton Bay the locals favourite beach a must visit and check the wildflowers.

We have lunch at Condingup Tavern and visit Condingup Lookout for seasonal wildflowers and spectacular vistas of the region.

There aren’t too many places in Australia where you see kangaroos soaking up the sun on the beach, but at Cape Le Grand National Park this is just one of the many natural highs on offer. The landscape changes from massive granite outcrops to freshwater pools and unbelievably white sandy beaches with views over many islands. With stops for regional wildflowers and visit Lucky Bay to see the kangaroos on the beach .

Day 7 Tour from Esperance to Hopetoun

This morning visit Stokes Inlet National Park and travel to Ravensthorpe via back roads and will be stopping to view regional red Lechenaultia Formosa, red four winged eucalyptus, and other amazing flowers.

Ravensthorpe & Hopetoun enjoy a temperate Mediterranean climate. Ravensthorpe is surrounded by ancient mountain ranges which has 1400 species of flora. Rocky hills, rugged river valleys, vast sand plains, estuaries and large inlets provide the area with a wealth of natural beauty, flora and birds.

Ravensthorpe celebrates its regional wildflowers with its highly acclaimed Ravensthorpe Wildflower Show you will be amazed to see such a large collection of flora. There are currently about 3000 specimens in the herbarium.

The wildflowers in the Ravensthorpe region are astounding we will be spending the afternoon looking at the amazing diversification of flora.

Day 8 Tour from Hopetoun to Bremer Bay

Today we spend all day in the Fitzgerald River National Park to really explore this unique flora hot spot. Which has 20% of Western Australia’s flora.

The Fitzgerald River National Park is now recognised as one of the most diverse botanical regions on earth with over 1,800 species of flowering plants alone. In spring, the landscape is dotted with colourful wildflowers including banksias, hakeas, bottlebrush, feather flowers, Quaalup bell, orchids and many others.

Bremer Bay’s isolation is one of its finest features along with scenic beauty, magnificent turquoise waters of bays and beaches and diversity of flora and fauna.

Day 9 Tour from Bremer Bay to Albany

This morning before we leave the region we will be visiting Tozer’s Bush Camp which has natural bushland of high diversity of wildflowers and orchids. You will find it very difficult to be drawn away from this very unique bushland.

After lunch visit Cheyne Beach, Waychinicup, Albany. Waychinicup National Park is a vital safety haven for many threatened animal species.

The park encompasses the lower reaches and estuary of the Waychinicup River and a line of granite outcrops extending east to Cheyne Beach, in places, deeply incised gully’s run down to the sea from bare rock exposures and boulder-strewn hilltops.

Visit Albany town sights visit Mt Clarence overlooking Princess Royal Harbour and King George Sound, Middleton Beach and overnight Albany.

Day 10 Tour from Albany to Perth

The final day of our Western Australian Wildflower Tours sees us visit Stirling Range Retreat to join a local Orchid and Wildflower Tour to see varieties of orchids and endemic wildflowers in isolated places with a local guide who is passionate about the region, habitat and of course the flora.

We tour through premier agriculture regions Gnowangerup, Wagin, and Williams and see Jarrah, Marri, Wandoo woodland before descending the Darling Escarpment in to Perth late afternoon.

Day 11 Fly Home

Today marks the end of your South Western WA Wildflower expedition. Say goodbye to your fellow travelers after breakfast this morning and be personally met at your hotel by a DISCOVER AUSTRALIA representative and transferred from your hotel to the airport for your flight home.
