Wildflower Season

The best time to visit Western Australia is undoubtedly during wildflower season, where the landscape erupts into magnificent colour. Travel to WA during September or October with this package to experience this remarkable natural phenomenon. There are more than 12,000 species of wildflowers throughout WA - many only found here - such as clusters of splendid rare orchids in the south, prolific inland carpets of everlastings as far as the eye can see to colourful roadside kangaroo paws.

Day 1 Fly to Perth

Feel the great expansive openness of the West Coast with its big blue skies and its ever developing but still youthful capital city of Perth. You will be personally met at the airport by a DISCOVER AUSTRALIA representative and transferred from the airport to your Fremantle hotel. You can relax and use the rest of the day to explore your hotel and its facilities, perhaps take a stroll around the neighbourhood and Fremantle precinct.

Day 2 Explore Fremantle

Fremantle's historic colonial streets pulsate with the energy of street-performers and buskers, couples walk hand-in-hand through its colourful and lively markets. The lively street cafes and restaurants along its famous 'cappuccino strip' are perfect resting places to indulge in a spot of people watching.

Spend the day exploring this bohemian port town at your own leisure.

Day 3 Fremantle to Geraldton

Wake up early and meet your fellow travellers and your knowledgeable guide before we embark on our adventure along Western Australia’s Coral Coast, bound for Monkey Mia. We leave laid back Fremantle and travel north along the coastline to Yanchep National Park for an Aboriginal cultural experience, where we will learn of the traditions and the way of life of the local Nyoongar people.

Continue along the coastline to Nambung National Park, home of the remarkable Pinnacles, a spectacular series of limestone formations, millions of years old, spread amongst the desert. We arrive in Geraldton, a trendy seaside city with the emergence of cold-brew coffee, street-art and is blessed with beautiful inner-city beaches and a warm, windy climate.

Later, we visit the touching HMAS Sydney Memorial and enjoy some free time to explore the seaside township of Geraldton before retiring to your hotel for the night.

Day 4 Geraldton to Monkey Mia

After a tasty breakfast, we are back on the road, leaving Geraldton for the world famous Shark Bay Heritage Area and our first stop at Hamelin Pool, home to a unique colony of Stromatolites - a complex ecosystem that has remained unchanged for millions of years. Scientists describe this natural phenomenon as the earliest record of life in the world and one of the reasons behind the areas World Heritage status. Then it is onwards to Shell Beach, one of only 2 beaches in the world formed completely by billions of coquina bivalve shells. We continue to Denham, a former pearling port with intoxicating views, safe swimming beaches and calm shallow waters.

Then, prepare yourself for Monkey Mia, with crystal blue bays, beautiful beaches and the friendly dolphins that make this destination so iconic. This beautiful coastal resort is nestled within pristine wilderness surrounded by rust coloured dunes.

For over 65,000 years, Aboriginal communities have called this land home, and their stories continue to resonate in its every corner. This evening we join an unforgettable night under a canopy of dazzling stars. Gather around the warmth of the campfire, as we savour the flavours of freshly cooked seafood or traditional bush tucker, lovingly prepared over the fire. Let the ancient sounds of the didgeridoo transport you to the timeless world of the Gutharraguda—Shark Bay, known as ‘Two Waters’ by the Aboriginal people. Immerse yourself in the captivating tales of this sacred place, rich with history and wonder. As the night deepens, the bush comes alive around you. Marvel at the delicate beauty of the flora and keep an eye out for kangaroos, echidnas, and other native creatures as they perform their night time tricks.

Day 5 Monkey Mia

Wake up feeling refreshed and relaxed and enjoy a delicious breakfast. Early this morning we make our way down to the calm waters of the bay to watch the famous dolphins swim to shore (appearance of the wild dolphins is not guaranteed).

The rest of the day is yours to either explore the Shark Bay region your own way or simply wander the Monkey Mia beach sinking your toes into the sand whilst admiring the rusty red sand dunes, delving into a good book or taking a swim in the calm pristine waters. Perhaps take a scenic flight over the stunning Shark Bay Marine Park, join a cruise out into the bay to spot turtles, dolphins and the illusive dugong or maybe hire a kayak or paddleboard to float atop the aquamarine waters of Shark Bay.

Day 6 Monkey Mia to Kalbarri

This morning we head south to the spectacular Kalbarri National Park. Millions of years in the making, the Murchison River has etched its path through this region, sculpting breathtaking gorges of red-and-white banded sandstone. During the wildflower season, colour explodes across the landscape as a carpet of flowers sweeps its way south.

We make our way to the Kalbarri Skywalk—a remarkable structure that protrudes 25 metres beyond the gorge rim, perched an exhilarating 100 metres above the river below. A breathtaking experience.

Here within the Park, an Indigenous guide will warmly welcome you to Country, sharing the deep stories woven into this ancient land. Discover the secrets of bushfoods, medicinal plants, and the remarkable ways local flora has been used for generations. Listen to heartfelt tales of growing up on this sacred land and gain a richer understanding of the region’s social history through Aboriginal eyes. Take a moment to look around—this rugged bushland offers not only sustenance but also natural remedies to heal both body and spirit.

Tonight, delight in a delicious dinner with your travel companions and some free time in the Kalbarri township.

Day 7 Kalbarri to Perth

This morning we leave the magnificent river and ocean vistas of Kalbarri, continuing our journey south back to Perth. We pass by Hutt Lagoon, one of the famous Pink Lakes of Western Australia. This lake has a high concentration of algae, responsible for the waters colour that can range from bright pink, to lilac and even red - a sensational sight.

Relax back on your luxury coach for the scenic drive back to Perth enjoying the splendid views. Settle into your Perth hotel or take a stroll around the neighbourhood before joining fellow travellers and guide for a special farewell dinner. Share experiences and photos of the trip highlights of the wonderful northern adventure of the Coral Coast.
