DAY 1 Fly to Hobart

Take a deep breath of fresh Tasmanian air and sense the southern island's rich history as you arrive into beautiful Hobart. You will be personally met at the airport by a DISCOVER AUSTRALIA representative and transferred from the airport to your hotel. You can relax and use the rest of the day to explore your hotel and its facilities, perhaps take a stroll around the neighbourhood and central Hobart.

DAY 2 Hobart & Coast Small-Group Cruise

Enjoy a relaxing slow-paced start at your hotel with plenty of time to explore Hobart this morning, before your action-packed fast-boat cruise this afternoon.

With an unsurpassed natural setting, a strong sense of history, daring art, a dynamic food scene and a wealth of natural attractions there is plenty to explore. Perhaps wander through Hobart's historic waterfront featuring the magnificent old sandstone warehouses of Salamanca Place. Stroll along the working docks past the floating Brooke Street Pier and Douglas Mawson's Antarctica Hut Museum. Maybe try some fish and chips from a floating fish punt or dine in the finest and freshest of restaurants. Browse the quirky and artisan shops, or simply marvel at the incredible architecture and wander through magnificent gardens.

This afternoon we venture down the Derwent River to explore the spectacular ocean coastline on a luxury small-group cruise (with a maximum of 12 people). Discover the renowned waterways that influence Hobart's lifestyle. Visit Australia's oldest lighthouse, circumnavigate Betsey Island and uncover the city's rich maritime past.

Cruising down the Derwent River we'll pass historic Battery Point, one of Tasmania's premium residential addresses. We’ll see well-known landmarks like the iconic Wrest Point Casino and the Shot Tower. Further south, we'll truly appreciate the scale of Mount Wellington as it towers over the city. Arrive at the famous Iron Pot lighthouse, and be immersed in the fascinating history as our guide shares stories of Hobart's early settlement. Explore caves & see hundreds of seabirds. Cruising into Storm Bay, we reach Betsey Island. This uninhabited island is home to little penguins and seabirds like the majestic white bellied sea eagle, cormorants and gulls. As we circumnavigate Betsey Island, Hope Beach comes into view. This isolated beach is known for its large breaks and offshore winds. We cruise close in to the shore and feel the swell surging straight from the Southern Ocean; these conditions make this a favourite spot with local surfers. As we return to Hobart you’ll feel thoroughly refreshed, with a newfound appreciation for this beautiful harbour city.

DAY 3 Explore Hobart

Hobart is central to awesome wildernesses, iconic colonial history, picture perfect vistas and sandy beaches. Spend the day exploring the sights and surrounds of Hobart at your own pace. You may choose to visit MONA, the famous museum set in a winery on the Berriedale Peninsula and is the largest privately funded museum in Australia. Alternatively, you can spend some time strolling through Salamanca Place, visit Mt Wellington or the Royal Tasmanian Botanical Gardens.

DAY 4 Port Arthur & Bonorong Wildlife Park

We leave the city behind us, as we embark on a scenic drive along Tasmania’s east coast towards the Tasman Peninsula and Australia’s most notorious convict settlement and penal colony, Port Arthur. Settled in 1830, the well-preserved historic site is now a World Heritage listed. Learn of Australia’s dark colonial past as our knowledgeable guide walks us through history.

Take in some of the fascinating geological features of the Tasman Peninsula such as Tasman Arch and Devil’s Kitchen; an unusual rock formation carved by the sea through the sheer rock face of the eastern coast of the Tasman Peninsula. This afternoon, we meet Tasmania’s iconic mascot – the Tasmanian Devil at Bonorong Wildlife Park, before making our way back to Hobart.

DAY 5 Hobart to Freycinet National Park

Escaping the city, we journey east to the beautiful Freycinet National Park, famous for its azure waters, white sandy beaches and the Pink Granite mountains that serve as its backdrop. The postcard perfect, pristine wilderness is ours to explore. Take an interpreted walk to the world famous Wineglass Bay lookout and be rewarded with stunning photo opportunities. Take a moment to appreciate the serenity and unsurpassed beauty of Tasmania’s most photographed location.

DAY 6 Freycinet National Park to Launceston

We leave the tranquility of Freycinet National Park and continue along Tasmania’s east coast towards the northern capital – Launceston. Your knowledgeable guide will introduce you to the city before taking you further afield to scenic Cataract Gorge. Just a short 1.5km drive from the city centre, visitors and residents have been coming to Cataract Gorges since 1890.

After lunch, reflect on an amazing journey through some of Tasmania’s most phenomenal scenery. Say goodbye to our guide and to new friends.

DAY 7 Say Goodbye to Launceston
