DAY 1 Depart Australia for Munich (Germany)

Today we depart for Munich, Germany. Fly on a premium award-winning airline like Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Etihad Airways, Emirates, Qantas or British Airways (subject to availability). Enjoy the attentive cabin service, regular meals and onboard entertainment system.

DAY 2 Arrive in Munich

You will be personally met at Franz Josef Airport by your HolidayMax representative and transferred to your central Munich hotel. You can relax and use the rest of the day to explore your hotel and its facilities, perhaps take a stroll around this fascinating city.

DAY 3 Explore Munich

Today enjoy an escorted walking tour of Munich. A city of apparent stark contrasts between modern and traditional. Where tall beer tankards and Lederhosen shorts sit side by side with high-tech cars and edgy art. Munich has a wealth of cultural hot-spots, smart sophistication and a certain charm that you’ll find irresistible.

This evening, experience one of Munich’s traditional beer halls for a traditional Bavarian beer and special dinner.

DAY 4 Munich to Nuremberg to Prague (Czech Republic)

Today travel through Bavaria to Nuremberg, with incredible architecture, painstakingly restored using original stone after the bombings of the Second World War. Famous for its art, architecture, cobbled lanes and ancient chapels, this is also home to some of Europe’s finest beer.

We continue on through the old iron curtain to the Czech Republic and splendid Prague. Prague is the equal of Paris in terms of beauty. Its history goes back a millennium and is renowned to have the best beer in Europe. It’s well recognised as a beautiful city, boasting elaborate baroque, gothic, art nouveau and cubist architecture. Known for its abundance of art, your exploration of Prague will be a truly rewarding one. Prague will come to life during your walking tour of the city with a local guide. See quirky bars, cobbled lanes and beautiful courtyards.

Tonight, experience authentic Czech cuisine at a special dinner to celebrate your first night in this wonderful imperial city.

DAY 5 Explore Prague

Choose how you’d like to experience this splendid city with a selection of activities on offer. Perhaps treat yourself to the fairy tale magic of Prague and revisit some of the places you saw yesterday like the majestic Prague Castle, the famous Charles Bridge, the ‘Old Town’ or the Jewish Quarter. Lose yourself in Prague's myriad of twisting lanes. There is also a ‘Secret Garden’, which leads to a man-made grotto (if you can find it). Prague's dramatic history is reflected in the beauty of the architecture of churches, opera houses, concert halls and parks. You could sample the famous local beer or visit the John Lennon tribute - Lennon wall - with its words of peace, which is added to on a daily basis. DAY 6 Prague to Auschwitz to Krakow (Poland)

Say farewell to Prague as we head to Poland for a tour of the solemn Auschwitz concentration camp. Then onto the historic royal capital of Krakow.

Kraków is one of the most stunning and surprising cities in Europe, home to some of Europe’s most impressive Gothic and Renaissance architecture and over 2.3 million artworks. Experience a walking tour of this treasure-trove of a city that effortlessly fuses medieval pomp and pageantry with a modern-day university vibe.

It’s highly cultured and bursting with historic buildings and monuments. The city’s rich cultural and artistic life is inspired by its unique atmosphere. Over thousands of years, all of the great European architectural styles – Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque and Art Nouveau – have left their mark on this incredible small vibrant city. Discover the authentic character of its old streets and little squares lined with restaurants serving local delicacies.

DAY 7 Explore Krakow

Choose how you’d like to experience Kraków with a selection of activities on offer. It’s an easy place to explore, perhaps visit the renaissance cloth hall in the main market square, the World Heritage listed Old Town, Kazimierz and the Wawel Castle, or maybe sample local cuisine such as Zurek (a very traditional Polish soup with a distinctive sour taste that is served in a special hollowed out loaf of bread). Perhaps take an excursion to the remarkable World Heritage listed Krakow Salt Mine, dating back to the Middle Ages. You’ll walk through 2km of underground tunnels, chapels, reliefs and freestanding sculptures carved from salt rock walls; along with underground lakes and archaeological displays.

Today is a free flexi-day so you can choose to explore Krakow and it’s amazing attractions yourself at your own pace or join an optional activity like The Wieliczka Salt Mine ($60). Make your choice while on the tour.

DAY 8 Krakow to Banska Bystrica (Slovakia) to Budapest (Hungary)

Today we leave Poland and travel to Slovakia to visit Banska Bystrica, a picturesque town with beautiful buildings dating back to the late Middle Ages. Take in the historic charm of this fascinating city on an intriguing tour with your tour leader – admiring the cathedrals, clock towers and castles of its gothic and medieval streetscapes.

We continue to Hungary and to its spectacular capital of Budapest – the grand city on the Danube. It has something for everyone – from dramatic history and flamboyant architecture to healing thermal waters and a vibrant cultural scene that is unrivalled in eastern Europe.

Your tour of Budapest starts on the Pest side of the Danube, then head across the river to the Buda side to stop at the Fisherman’s Bastion for spectacular views of the city and the river below. See the Houses of Parliament and drive along the river admiring the city.

Tonight, enjoy a special dinner and the chance to savour some of the local cuisine. Despite its most famous food being medieval goulash, Hungarian food is one of the most sophisticated styles of cooking in Europe.

DAY 9 Explore Budapest

Choose how you’d like to experience Budapest with a selection of activities on offer. Your HolidayMax guide can explain how you can discover much of Budapest at your own pace for a personal experience.

The towns of Buda and Pest on either side of the Danube became a single city in 1873 and is now one of Europe's most important cities. Architecturally, the city is a treasure trove, with baroque, neoclassical, Eclectic and art nouveau buildings in abundance. Testament to the city’s cool urban vibe are its unique ‘ruin bars’, where dilapidated buildings have been reinvented into quirky watering holes complete with reclaimed furniture mixed with modern local art. Budapest is blessed with an abundance of hot springs and ‘taking the waters’ has been popular here since the time of the Romans, in one of the many bathhouses.

Tonight, take an optional panoramic evening cruise along the River Danube, with incredible views of the famous Hungarian Parliament building, Buda Castle Hill, Fisherman’s Bastion, the Chain Bridge and many more of the city's great sights. Experience this iconic city come alive at night from the river.

DAY 10 Budapest to Bratislava (Slovakia) to Vienna (Austria)

Today we leave Hungary and head to Slovakia, for a stop in its capital Bratislava. We take a tour of this medieval and Gothic city, including a visit to famous Bratislava Castle, high on the hill.

We continue to Austria and it’s capital Vienna for a city tour. Few cities can show off such cultural and historical splendour and maintain a profile as an exciting, modern city, but Vienna does it well. Baroque streetscapes and imperial palaces set the stage for Vienna's artistic and musical masterpieces. Complementing a musical past that includes luminaries like Mozart and Beethoven, Vienna has a buzzing modern culinary scene, rich coffee-house culture and bustling social scene. Enjoy a special dinner tonight.

DAY 11 Vienna to Graz to Ljubljana (Slovenia)

Today we journey through Austria to the beautiful city of Graz, famous for its Renaissance architecture and vibrant arts. Revel in an enchanting tour of this wonderous city with your tour leader, taking in its spellbinding blend of Renaissance, Baroque, and contemporary architecture and the historic charm of its World Heritage protected Old Town.

We continue south leaving Austria for Slovenia and it’s leafy, elegant capital of Ljubljana. Experience a walking tour of this little gem of a city. Despite its small size, you’ll be enchanted by its beauty, which features a wealth of cultures, activities and sights. Ljubljana Castle overlooks the city, and dates back to the 16th Century. Tonight, explore a little more - everything is just a short stroll away in this compact capital city.

DAY 12 Ljubljana to Lake Bled to Salzburg (Austria) to Munich (Germany)

Leaving Ljubljana behind, our first stop today is at dreamy Lake Bled. Cradled in the Julian Alps like a sapphire jewel, the emerald waters of this enchanting lake create a haven that captures the very essence of Slovenia’s romantic allure. In the centre of the lake is a tiny island dedicated to housing a magnificent church. Perched dramatically on the edge of Bled Island’s sheer cliff sits the towering Bled Castle, reflecting atop the pristine waters. Surrounded by emerald forests and embraced by the snow-capped peaks, Lake Bled will take your breath away. Soak up the majestic scenery or perhaps indulge in a slice of iconic Bled Cream Cake.

From here we head back to Austria and picture-perfect Salzburg. Featuring gorgeous architecture, a formidable cliff-top fortress and imposing cliffs in the distance, you could be forgiven for thinking that you were in a fairy-tale. It still looks much as it did when Mozart lived here 250 years ago.

We continue back to Munich. The evening is free for you to spend as you wish. Say farewell to your travel companions, go for dinner in a local restaurant or simply relax in your hotel.
