DAY 1 Fly to Darwin

When you arrive into Darwin you can sense the cosmopolitan and thriving atmosphere of this historic tropical North Australian city. You will be personally met at the airport by a DISCOVER AUSTRALIA representative and transferred from the airport to your hotel. You can relax and use the rest of the day to explore your hotel and its facilities, perhaps take a stroll around the neighbourhood and central Darwin.

DAY 2 Darwin Town Tour & Sunset Dinner Cruise

Today we embark on a fascinating 5 hour guided tour of Darwin's rich culture and history. Your friendly local driver will pick you up in the comfortable air-conditioned coach before sharing experiences, fascinating facts and enchanting stories in the on-board full commentary. DAY 3 Katherine Gorge Luxury Day Tour & Cruise

Set-off this morning for a day filled with spectacular and unique Territory scenery and rich human stories. Experience the grandeur of Katherine Gorge's dramatic setting of towering rock wall ramparts protruding out of the banks of the Katherine River, learn some of the ancient Aboriginal Dreamtime stories, see prolific birdlife and cruise through this spectacular gorge. Discover Edith Falls (cascading down the sheer rock wall face into a paperbark encompassed plunge pool), Pine Creek, and the take time at the well maintained Adelaide River War Cemetery to get a real sense of modern Australian history.

Your friendly driver will pick you up in the comfortable air-conditioned luxury coach before sharing experiences, fascinating facts and enchanting stories in the onboard full commentary throughout the day. Head south from Darwin on the Stuart Highway, see endless outback scrub and World War II airstrips. Take a break at Adelaide River, visit Adelaide River War Cemetery (with memorial of the Darwin air raids in the 1940's), spot for wallabies, travel the western side of Nitmiluk National Park to the spectacular Edith Falls (perhaps take a swim in the waterhole below the falls or relax on the grassy banks). Enjoy a delicious buffet lunch at the Katherine Gorge in Nitmiluk National Park. Take a two hour guided tour and scenic cruise through Katherine Gorge (look for freshwater crocodiles on the banks) - marvelling at the stark, sheer, richly coloured escarpments of the Katherine Gorge canyon. Tour through the outback township of Katherine (third largest in the Territory), stop at Adelaide River (perhaps purchase the local delicacy 'Barra and chips'). Arrive back into Darwin with your camera full of wonderful new memories.

DAY 4 Jumping Crocodiles

Enjoy some free-time this morning to explore Darwin before you set off for an exciting afternoon.

Travel inland to cruise a section of the Adelaide River and witness saltwater crocodiles close up as they leap out of the water to snatch their food. The Adelaide River starts in Litchfield National Park and is well known for its high concentration of saltwater crocodiles, along with other wildlife including white-bellied sea eagles, whistling kites, freshwater crocodiles, bull sharks and black flying-fox. An excellent opportunity to observe these primeval creatures as you cruise along the Adelaide River.

Today you will cruise the Adelaide River in crocodile infested waters, watch as your guide entices massive wild saltwater crocodiles to jump and snatch their food (witnessing crocodiles up close). Experience the ultimate thrill as these magnificent creatures leap out of the water with sheer power and grace - creating a profound sense of excitement and awe that will stay with you forever.

Visit the Wetland View Top & Information Centre (educational display with sweeping views over the wetlands from the top deck). Today is an amazing adventure.

DAY 5 Litchfield National Park

This is a truly beautiful and spiritual destination. The iconic Litchfield National Park is famous for stunning cascading tropical waterfalls, warm swimming holes, the Tabletop Range sandstone plateau, monsoon tropical rainforests, intriguing magnetic termite mounds and ancient Aboriginal sites of the Wagait people. Significant attractions include Florence Falls, Buley Rockhole, Wangi Falls, Tolmer Falls, Tjaetaba Falls, Tjaynera Falls (Sandy Creek), Surprise Creek Falls, Blyth Homestead and Bamboo Creek.

Today you will discover Litchfield, including Florence Falls, the termite mounds, Wangi Falls, Tolmer Falls, Howard Springs Nature Park and will have the opportunity to take a dip in refreshing natural plunge pools bordered by magnificent pandanus palms.

We skirt Francis Bay on Darwin Harbour and head south out of Darwin on the Stuart Highway. Visit Florence Falls (stunning views, perhaps walk down to the plunge pool for a swim in this beautiful oasis), see monsoon forests and woodland areas on an Interpretive Guided Walk, perhaps take a walk to Tolmer Falls (breathtaking valley with a waterfall and distant views toward the coast over cattle stations), enjoy lunch at the Litchfield Cafe, visit Wangi Falls and plunge pool (perhaps take a dip or a stroll through lush tropical forest or relax and just take it all in), explore Howard Springs Nature Park (feed the barramundi and turtles), and stop at the Meridien Termite Mounds (learn about Cathedral and Magnetic Termite Mounds). Head back to Darwin, reflecting on your enchanting day of enriching experiences on this beautiful and spiritual land.

DAY 6 Tour from Darwin to Kakadu

Enjoy an early pick up from your Darwin hotel for your small-group 4WD adventure to Kakadu and Arnhem Land. Immerse yourself in a fascinating guided cruise along the Corroboree Billabong to spot salt water crocodiles and the large variety of birdlife enroute to World Heritage protected Kakadu National Park.

Next, stop at White Lily Billabong – a serene sanctuary where tranquil waters mirror the vibrant hues of the outback skies - before arriving at “Maguk” also known as Barramundi Gorge. Enjoy a scenic walk along Barramundi Creek to the base of Barramundi Falls where you have the opportunity to swim or snorkel in the plunge pool at the base of the falls.

Depart Barramundi Gorge late this afternoon for Nawurlandja Lookout. Take a short climb up the sloping sandstone to get panoramic views of the sun setting across Nourlangie Rock, Anbangbang Billabong and the Arnhem Land escarpment.

Depart after sunset for Jabiru and your overnight Kakadu accommodation.

DAY 7 Explore Arnhem Land

Depart Jabiru after breakfast and travel to the northern region of Kakadu. Cross the East Alligator River at Cahill’s Crossing and travel into Arnhem Land. Enjoy a scenic drive into the Gunbalanya Aboriginal community and take in vistas of the floodplains covered in bird life and water lilies.

Visit the Injalak Arts and Crafts Centre where you can meet and watch traditional local artists creating wares before enjoying a guided tour of the Injalak Hill art sites with your local Aboriginal guide. You will see some of the best Indigenous rock art before continuing your journey on to the Cobourg Peninsula.

On arrival at the Cobourg Coastal Wilderness Lodge, watch the sun set over Point Essington while you enjoy nibbles served by the resident camp caretakers on the cliff top. We enjoy three nights at this remarkable and remote Arnhem Land location, staying in comfortable permanent safari tents for this incredible bucket-list wilderness experience.

DAY 8 Cobourg Marine Park Cruise

Enjoy a “Cobourg-style” cooked breakfast before spending the day exploring the northern territory’s biggest Marine Park by boat. Look for marine turtles, manta rays, dolphins, sharks, crocodiles, mud crabs and plenty more!

During your cruise, visit the Victoria Settlement ruins, established prior to Darwin as a military outpost but later abandoned. These poignant stone ruins that grace the Port Essington shoreline remain as a testament to the profound hardships endured by early colonists.

Enjoy some fishing and spot more marine life along this majestic stretch of coastline on our way back to camp.

You have a free afternoon to relax and explore the nearby beaches, go fishing or just read a book and enjoy the outdoors. The choice is yours.

DAY 9 Cobourg Peninsula 4WD Tour

Today, explore the eastern side of the park by 4WD. Cobourg is home to the first RAMSAR wetland (wetlands of international importance) in the world and where you can find paperbark swamps and billabongs just 100 metres from the coastline.

Continue your journey via the northern beaches where you will be able to explore exposed coral reefs and rock pools due to the low tide. The northern beaches are also commonly used as turtle nesting areas.

After lunch, have an opportunity to go mud crabbing using local and traditional Aboriginal methods. Learn how to hunt and gather these delicacies before trying your hand at it yourself.

On your way back to the wilderness lodge, visit the Marine Park’s Cultural and Information Centre to gain a deeper insight into this fascinating region.

DAY 10 Tour from Cobourg Peninsula to Darwin via Kakadu & Arnhem Land

Enjoy an early start to your day admiring the glorious bush scenery of Arnhem Land as you make your way back to Darwin via Kakadu National Park. Enjoy numerous stops along the way before enjoying lunch on the banks of the East Alligator River.

After lunch, visit Ubirr Rock where you can spend time viewing some of the best Aboriginal rock art in Kakadu. A brief stroll to the summit of Ubirr rewards you with breath-taking vistas, unveiling the sprawling wetlands and majestic stone landscapes that grace the surroundings. Enroute to Darwin, stop at the Mamukala Wetlands which is home to a multitude of native birds and is at times a haven for thousands of Magpie Geese.

Arrive in Darwin this evening and settle in to your Darwin hotel.
