Cosmopolitan Broome is the gateway to the beautiful Kimberley region of Western Australia. Maybe opt for an exhilarating scenic flight over the iconic Horizontal Falls, with a thrilling cruise through this awe inspiring natural wonder. DAY 4 Tour from Broome to Fitzroy Crossing

This morning we delve into the ancient history of pre-historic dinosaurs at Gantheaume Point – where the footprints of these long-extinct creatures lay preserved in the ancient reef rock - now one of the most significant paleontological sites in the world.

Our journey then begins towards the heart of the Kimberley, Fitzroy Crossing and the Mimbi Caves. Fitzroy Crossing, nestled in the heart of the Kimberley, is a gateway to stunning landscapes and rich cultural heritage. Surrounded by dramatic gorges, ancient rock formations, and crystal-clear rivers, it’s a hub for exploring the iconic Mimbi Caves. Rich in Indigenous culture, it offers a unique opportunity to explore ancient stories, art and traditions.

We stop at Fitzroy Crossing for the night, where we can relax and indulge in a delicious dinner and a glass of wine.

DAY 5 Fitzroy Crossing to Halls Creek

Today we immerse ourselves in local Indigenous culture as we step into the timeless beauty of the Mimbi Caves, escorted by an Indigenous guide who will lead us through this sacred place. Explore the delicate limestone formations, brilliantly vivid colours and crystal-clear freshwater pools that remain from the Devonian Great Barrier Reef that formed over 350 million years ago. Discover ancient rock paintings, each one a quiet testament to the deep history that surrounds you. As you listen to the songs and hear the Gooniyandi Dreaming story, you’ll feel a powerful connection to the land. The experience is made even more special with a warm cup of billy tea and fresh damper, grounding you in the rich culture and stories that have been passed down for generations.

We then visit a vibrant Aboriginal art gallery in Fitzroy Crossing. Engage with this thriving space adorned with masterpieces crafted by local artists, each providing a window into their personal stories, bush trips and histories.

As today’s journey unfolds, we venture toward the vast expanse of the Great Sandy Desert – an ocean of golden dunes stretching infinitely under the vast Australian sky. Along the northern edge of this arid wonder lies Halls Creek, a marvel of wide-open spaces, rich Aboriginal and European history and with the eager calls of “Gold!” still lingering in the air.

DAY 6 Halls Creek to El Questro

Today we continue to make our way north winding through some of the most spectacular range country in the Kimberley including the mighty Durack and Carr Boyd ranges. The vast, sun-scorched landscapes stretch endlessly around us, while the ancient, rugged ranges stand as silent witnesses to the passage of time. The beauty here is so raw, so unspoiled—it truly takes your breath away.

We are then introduced to the legendary Gibb River Road – immersing ourselves in the raw beauty of one of Australia's most iconic off-road experiences. Winding our way along the first sealed stretch of “The Gibb”, surrounded by sweeping views of the spectacular Cockburn Range we arrive to the gigantic and world famous El Questro – our home for the next two nights. When darkness falls, expect a bedazzlement of stars overhead and then drift off to sleep to a chorus of frogs and cicadas.

DAY 7 Discover El Questro

Wake to the sound of birdsong today as the Kimberley’s morning rays stream into your luxurious Safari-style tent. An expansive realm of untamed beauty, El Questro Wilderness Park is a glorious tapestry of red cliffs, emerald gorges, cascading waterfalls and thermal springs. The vast, untamed landscape carries the ancient stories of this remote Australian frontier, creating an immersive experience that echoes the true spirit of the Outback.

Enjoy breakfast on the Emma Gorge resort verandah before we set out to cross the mighty Pentecost River for a magical cruise along the spectacular Chamberlain Gorge. Step aboard your vessel as we cruise the serene waters framed by towering 65-metre escarpments standing sentinel over the landscape. An exhibition of nature's magnificence - inviting you to absorb the pristine beauty and sheer magnitude of the Kimberley.

Enjoy free time this afternoon to cool off in the resort pool - or if time and temperature permits – perhaps hike to the spectacular Emma Gorge with its cliff face escarpments reaching up to 120m on both sides of the trail. Refresh with a swim in the pristine Emma Gorge waterhole beneath a towering 65 metre chasm graced by an exquisite droplet waterfall.

DAY 8 El Questro to Kununurra

Our destination today – Kununurra - a hidden gem in Western Australia's Kimberley region, a striking oasis where untamed landscapes and cultural richness converge.

First up today we visit Hoochery Distillery, makers of Ord River Rum. Learn about how Raymond ‘Spike’ Dessert III and his family came to open the distillery before you sit down and try their famous Ord River Rum Cake for morning tea. Delish! Or to really get your heart started, perhaps try a tasting paddle of their hand crafted rums and whiskeys.

This afternoon we visit the historic Durack Homestead Museum. The homestead was originally built in 1895 by the famous pioneering Durack family - faithfully removed brick by brick from its original location and reconstructed to become a museum when Lake Argyle, Australia's largest man-made lake was filled. Stroll through the homestead exhibitions and gardens connecting with the challenges of early pioneering life in the Kimberley.

The special finishing touch to our incredible day awaits as we board our cruise along the Ord River from Lake Argyle back to Kununurra. Experience the abundance of birdlife these permanent waters have brought to the region, admire the colours of the ranges and fall in love with a spectacular Kimberley sunset over the water before you arrive in Kununurra.

DAY 9 Explore Kununurra

Today – your adventure is yours to choose. Perhaps take an optional early morning scenic flight over the spectacular Bungle Bungle Range. Feel the sheer exhilaration as you soar above this mesmerising landscape where ancient beehive-shaped domes reveal their intricate patterns etched by time or maybe take a full day in-depth 4WD tour of the Bungle Bungles (Purnululu).

You could choose to join a guided walking tour of Mirima National Park – also known as the ‘mini-Bungles’ for its rocky resemblance. Wander between the brightly coloured layered rock walls and learn of the cultural significance for the local Miriwoong people while watching for wallabies, reptiles, bats, dingoes, echidna and an array of Kimberley birdlife. There is also the opportunity to explore the Waringarri Aboriginal Art Centre on a guided tour, meeting the creatives at work and maybe selecting a piece to take home.

DAY 10 Kununurra to Katherine

Welcome to the Northern Territory! After breakfast we bid a fond farewell to the wild beauty of Western Australia as we cross the border on our way to Katherine. A remarkable journey lies ahead as we pass through small outback settlements like Timber Creek, admire the magnificent wild Victoria River and drive beneath breathtaking escarpments cliffs.

Embraced by the serene waters of the Katherine River, the fascinating outback hub of Katherine reveals itself as a gateway to the rugged wonders of the Top End, where ancient gorges, lush landscapes, and red earth intertwine to paint a vivid portrait of nature's resilience and the timeless spirit of the land. Katherine also holds rich cultural significance, evident in the ancient Indigenous rock art galleries found in the surrounding landscapes. With its blend of natural beauty and cultural richness, Katherine provides a captivating entry point to the rugged landscapes of Australia's Northern Territory.

We are welcomed to the Territory with a spectacular Outback Show featuring the charismatic horseman and acclaimed musician, Tom Curtain, who invites us to experience an afternoon filled with hearty laughter and genuine country charm on a working cattle station. Tom's larger-than-life personality comes alive as he regales the gathering with soul-stirring songs and captivating bush tales, offering you the ultimate immersion into the heart and soul of life on the land. DAY 11 Katherine to Nitmiluk National Park to Darwin

Today we discover the wonders of Nitmiluk National Park - home to the phenomenal Katherine Gorge, towering sandstone cliffs, cascading waterfalls and serene waterways. As sunlight dances on the water’s surface, the spirit of the Jawoyn people, traditional custodians of this land, whispers through the rustling leaves and ancient rock art. Embark on a journey of discovery through this sacred terrain and immerse yourself in the profound beauty and cultural richness of this place of the Cicada dreaming.

This morning we embark on an awe-inspiring cruise through the majestic Nitmiluk (Katherine) Gorge. Feel the spirituality of the land while you learn about the Jawoyn people. Revel in the moment as the rugged beauty of this giant chasm welcomes you into its fold, revealing towering sandstone cliffs, abundant waterways and pristine wilderness.

Our journey then continues north along “the track” to Darwin. The renowned Stuart Highway carries us past the historic gold town of Pine Creek and through Adelaide River (site of a major military headquarters during World War II). Spot the many World War II airstrips as we listen to the intriguing commentary.

On arrival into Darwin, enjoy a fascinating tour of the city. Discover the interesting architecture, admire the ocean views and learn about the events that have shaped life in this remote tropical city. This evening we join our fellow travellers for a special farewell dinner.

DAYS 12-13 Explore Darwin

Spend the next two days exploring Darwin at your own pace. Located on a massive and spectacular harbour on the Timor Sea, Darwin’s population is a melting-pot of cultures from more than 50 countries, who pride themselves on their unique and friendly laid-back lifestyle. Darwin has year round balmy weather and is surrounded by the iconic Kakadu National Park and Litchfield National Park. There is plenty to see and do in the magnificent and vibrant Top End.

Maybe visit famous Mindil Beach or the cafes and restaurants of Mitchell Street. Alternatively, you could discover Kakadu National Park, Litchfield National Park or one of the many other sights the Top End has to offer. The choice is yours.
